I have taken exam 1Z0-432: Oracle Real Application Clusters 12c Essentials on Thursday, June 24, 2021. This exam has the following format:
- Format: Multiple Choice
- Duration: 120 minutes
- Exam Price: kr 2.108 (Price in Swedish kronor)
- Number of Questions: 85
- Passing Score: 74%
- Validation: This exam is validated against 12c.
To do this certification, Oracle Corporation recommends taking official training before the exam. I did not take training specific to Oracle RAC. Instead, I took the Oracle official exam to the Oracle Certified Master exam in June 2019. That means that I have been studying this topic for a long time ago. However, as everyone knows, the pandemic came, and the OCM ed2 exam has been canceled in Europe since then. On this date (Monday, July 13, 2021), Oracle has informed me if I still want to take the exam, it will be possible only in China, where centers are applying for this exam. Therefore, I decided not to lose all my studies and took the Oracle RAC 12C Essentials exam. After taking the exam, my score was enough to be certified as Oracle Real Application Clusters 12c Certified Implementation Specialist. This exam has the following topics:
- Overview of Oracle Grid Infrastructure and Real Application Clusters
- Installing a RAC Environment
- Automatic Storage Management
- Cloud FS
- Managing and Monitoring Oracle RAC Environments
- Oracle Clusterware Overview
- RAC Networking
- RAC 12c New Features
I think that the Oracle official documentation is enough to succeed in this exam. Therefore I suggest the studies from the Oracle® Real Application Clusters Installation Guide 12c Release 1 (12.1) and eventually if you have more time to study, 12.2.0.1, 18.1.0 // 12.2.0.2 and 19.1.0 // 12.2.0.3. Those last versions are only if you want to master all features about the Real Application Clusters running on 12c. However, I have only studied Oracle® Real Application Clusters Installation Guide 12c Release 1 (12.1) documentation and a quick study on the 12.2.0.1 documentation to spot some differences for the exam.
As I wrote above, only by studying the Oracle official documentation could I prepare to take the exam. Nevertheless, I have decided to find a book about RAC technology on version 12c and study the book testing the information in each chapter. Moreover, after some researches, the chosen book was “Oracle Database 12c Release 2 Real Application Clusters Handbook: Concepts, Administration, Tuning & Troubleshooting Pocketbok – Illustrerad, 27 February 2018”:
Besides the knowledge that I acquired studying the Oracle RAC Official documentation and having more than 10+ years of experience working directly with this technology since version 10g, I can say that this book was worth it. Especially chapter 12 about Cache Fusion was my favorite.
Furthermore, I recommend you be aware and know by heart some technical specifications regarding understanding the concept of the technology and values for specification as for Oracle ASM, for instance. Therefore, I hope this post could be useful for you.
